About the boat and the renovation project
The sailboat featured in this blog is the Winga 87, a 29 foot sailboat built in Oskarshamn, Sweden by the Gothenborg-based company Winga Marin AB founded 1963. The one we have is built in 1980 and has been in the family since the mid nineties.

The boat has two cabins, one aft cabin featuring two single bunks and one starboard cabin with one larger bunk. The sofa in the salon can also be turned into two single bunks. There is one toilet with shower but no separate shower cabin. The pentry is located upstairs in the pilothouse.
Renovation Projects
Over the years, the boat has been maintained in a "functioning-but-not-much-more" condition. It's been in the water pretty much every summer and taken out for the occasional day cruise but not much more than that.
Last summer, my father and I decided to start making those investments into maintenance that had been pushed into the future for so long.
Last summer (2016) we renovated the fresh water engine cooling system, exchanged the old mechanic steering system for a hydraulic one, renovated the electrical system and clean most wood surfaces and metal parts in and around the pilothouse. We also changed the wooden boards running around the pilot house on the outside. See separate posts for pictures!
When everything was ready in August, we put the boat into the water...only to immediately have to take it out again due to a leaking thru hull fitting. First thing's out this year will be to exchange that one!
