Preparing to Launch

Launching has been set to Saturday the 20:th and yesterday was spent on making some final preparations; Waxing the starboard side of the hull, checking and exchanging the impeller in the engine cooling system, checking refilling oil in the engine and in the propeller gear box and putting back and reconnecting the main batteries.

The impeller is a paddle wheel that sucks in outside seawater to cool the engine. Baltic sea water is not that salty but still sea water causes more corrosion to the engine. Our engine has a system where fresh water is used for cooling. Outside seawater is used to cool the circulated fresh water but without ever mixing sea water and fresh water.

Unfortunately, it turns out we didn't had the right gasket for the impeller housing so I'll have to go and pick one of those up before saturday. Hope they're not out of stock, the Volvo Penta MD17 is a common engine in numerous older sailboats in Sweden.
